I suppose if it's anything differentiable from chillwave, synthwave would be instrumentals, stuff that tends to be made almost entirely out of many synths (often without vocals or even drums) and with a much more developed retro / pastiche dimension than the lighter retro of the more pitchforky artists. And this stuff has been around for a while, it easily goes back to Boards of Canada and Daft Punk, particularly French Daft-Punk-like offshoots like Alan Braxe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUDSVyGS-bc from 2004) and Kavinsky especially (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJOhCHCZ7j8 from 2006)Adam Harperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07597956610460782824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2646097089019633171.post-47237362393058829022013-12-17T23:15:39.001+00:002013-12-17T23:15:39.001+00:00I think there is yet another splinter / disambigua...I think there is yet another splinter / disambiguation which is the awkwardly named Dreamwave / Synthwave category.. Com Truise obviously was lumped in with Chillwave but there is a very large community of artists who are making shinier less hypnogogic versions of this type of nostalgia... Futurecop!, Power Glove, Lazerhawk, Mitch Murder, Miami Nights 1984

Or would you say this is a completely distinct diversion of electro / synth pop?Alexhttp://notevenlive.tumblr.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2646097089019633171.post-34742441118378115432013-10-05T06:27:19.722+01:002013-10-05T06:27:19.722+01:00TMT for the WINTMT for the WINAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2646097089019633171.post-87513052036926794072013-10-03T19:26:37.419+01:002013-10-03T19:26:37.419+01:00Could be. We'd have to be careful though because it bridges different groups of people in different places and different ages, and continua of this sort don't 'really' exist as such, but it's worth seeing the similarities.Adam Harperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07597956610460782824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2646097089019633171.post-31436025638935020892013-10-03T19:25:02.586+01:002013-10-03T19:25:02.586+01:00Great points.
